The Safe & Relaxing Use of Bath Bombs
Bath bombs are a simple way to turn an ordinary bath into a spa- like experience. With their fizzing bubbles, soothing oils, and beautiful scents, they’ve become a favourite for many who enjoy a touch of luxury at home. But like any self-care product, bath bombs should be used safely and responsibly. At Bathbomb & Garnish Studio, we believe that knowing how to use them correctly ensures both relaxation and peace of mind.
Tub Safety & General Precautions
When dropping a bath bomb into your tub, always make sure the surface isn’t too slippery. Some ingredients, such as oils or butters, may leave a residue that could increase the risk of slipping when you step out. Take extra care by rinsing down the tub after use.
It’s also a good idea to rinse or clean your tub before use, as bath bomb colourants can sometimes cling to leftover soap scum or residue. A clean surface helps prevent staining and makes cleanup easier afterward.
Bath bombs are for external use only and should always be kept out of reach of children and pets. While they may look fun and colourful, they are not toys or treats. Ingesting bath bomb ingredients can be harmful, so proper storage is important. A quick reminder that moisture is the enemy when it comes to bath bombs.
Fragrance Oils, Essential Oils & Sensitivities
While many bath bombs contain skin-friendly ingredients, not every fragrance or essential oil is suitable for everyone. Some people may experience irritation or sensitivity to certain scents or botanicals. If you have sensitive skin, allergies, or a health condition, it’s a good idea to:
-
Perform a patch test before full use.
-
Check the ingredient list carefully.
-
Avoid products with oils or fragrances you know may trigger a reaction.
- Consult a physician if you have any health issues before using any bath product.
For example, essential oils such as cinnamon, clove, or peppermint can be too strong for some skin types, while synthetic fragrance oils may also cause reactions in sensitive individuals. That’s why we carefully choose Canadian, sourced fragrance oils and essential oils that are skin-safe and responsibly tested. Keep in mind, while they are safe to use, it’s still important to be mindful of your own skin’s sensitivities and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
The New Canadian Allergen Regulations
Health Canada has recently introduced updates requiring clearer labeling of allergens, including those naturally and synthetically found in fragrance and essential oils. The list which comprises of 26 allergens will increase to 82 by August of 2026. Here at Bathbomb & Garnish Studio we are working with our suppliers to get their updated ingredients lists as they also receive them. This means that ingredients like limonene, linalool, or benzyl benzoate, which can trigger allergic reactions in some must now be disclosed on product labels.
This change is so important because it helps customers make safer, more informed decisions. Transparency not only protects individuals with sensitivities but also raises awareness about what goes into bath and body products. At Bathbomb & Garnish Studio, we’re committed to meeting these requirements so you can feel confident in knowing exactly what you’re using.
Don’t be alarmed if you see a long list of allergens on a product label, especially with fragrance oils. These are simply components of the fragrance and don’t affect everyone. They are included to be transparent, since some people may be sensitive to specific allergens like linalool or vanillin.
Fragrance allergens must be listed if they are over, 0.001% in products that stay on your skin like lotions or makeup, and 0.01% in products you wash off such as shampoo, soap, shower gel, or bath bombs.
